Trent Gazzaway

Background and experience

Trent leads audit, quality, sustainability services, regulator liaison, risk, and the network's public policy activities. He is responsible for driving greater consistency in our service delivery. 

Previously, Trent served as the Grant Thornton US managing partner of audit services and as the national managing partner of quality and innovation for audit services. In that role, Trent oversaw the firm’s national technical, ethical and risk management professionals — a highly talented group of accounting and auditing specialists that support the effective execution of Grant Thornton US audits around the world. He also managed the development of the firm’s tools and techniques that have the potential to radically change the auditing and financial reporting profession, including data analytics, robotic process automation, artificial intelligence and blockchain technology. 

Trent has collaborated extensively with members of the US Congress and key international policy groups to shape public policy impacting the accounting profession, businesses, and the capital markets. His experience includes auditing public and private companies and assisting companies in improving and evaluating risk management and internal control systems. 

In 2009, Trent led the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) project team in developing guidance on effective monitoring of internal control (www.coso.org). He was also a member of the advisory committee for COSO’s 2013 update to the Internal Control — Integrated Framework. Trent is currently a member of the profession’s Global Public Policy Committee, previously serving as chair from 2023 – 2025. 

Trent is a US certified public accountant (CPA) and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs.
