Grant Thornton grows global presence with Korea merger

Daejoo Accounting Corporation to add 70 partners and 500 staff, vaulting Grant Thornton into #5 market spot

LONDON/SEOUL -- Grant Thornton today announced the addition of Daejoo Accounting Corporation to its member firm operations in Korea.  Dramatically increasing Grant Thornton's capability in the country by adding 70 partners and 500 additional staff -- who generated nearly $60 million in revenues in 2015 -- Grant Thornton will also broaden its footprint in Korea with new offices in Busan, Changwon, Gwangju, Daegu and Chungju.

The expanded Korea member firm will operate under the name Grant Thornton Daejoo with Jang-Si Kwon and Moon-Won Choi serving as joint managing partners.  Daejoo Accounting Corporation had been the Korea member firm of BDO.

Grant Thornton Daejoo will provide a wide variety of audit, tax and specialty advisory services to clients from a wide variety of sectors.

“We are excited in this significant addition, as Grant Thornton continues to strengthen our geographical coverage in the APAC region,” said Ed Nusbaum, global CEO of Grant Thornton International Ltd.  “We warmly welcome this high-quality firm as they join 43,000 Grant Thornton people in over 130 countries working together to make a positive difference with clients, in their workplace and in their community.”

“With our 70 partners and 500 additional staff, we are excited in working together to help organizations unlock their potential for growth in Busan, Changwon, Gwangju, Daegu and Chungju, as well as Seoul,” said Jang-Si Kwon, joint managing partner of Grant Thornton Daejoo.

“We expect to continue to strengthen and upgrade meaningful, actionable advice to our current and future clients through a broad range of services under new brand Grant Thornton Daejoo,” said Moon-Won Choi, joint managing partner of Grant Thornton Daejoo.
