Rafael Flora is an Accountability Manager in Grant Thornton Brazil. With a passion for learning and development, Rafael reflects on his journey as a mentor and trainer to colleagues across the Sao Paulo office.
“Grant Thornton Brazil is a very young company. It has a young spirit and a dynamic environment.
I try to make a difference in everything I do every day. I am a person who believes strongly in people. I invest a lot of time in teaching, training and inspiring growth in others. To help a person grow, you have to play the role of parent, teacher, friend, tutor and mentor all at once. You have to stay close to the person – that is the only way to understand how to help them achieve their goals.
But I also look for possibilities for personal growth. The big problem is when you think you know everything. When you say: 'I am already full' or 'I have reached the next level, I do not have anything more to learn.'
From that moment, you start to become obsolete. My belief is to grow every day but not to grow alone.
I spend time outside my normal working hours organising training programmes for colleagues across every service line. It’s a great source of pride for me – leaving a legacy on a person that really helps them grow.”
